The leaders of the world’s two largest autocracies, China and Russia, like to promote themselves by contrasting their countries with the West, declaring their top-down regimes superior to Western-style democracy. But, as China’s President Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin tighten the screws of repression, growing numbers of their country’s citizens have decided they’ve had enough.
